Location: In-Person at our classrooms and Alexandria, VA Headquarters
Position Type: Internship
Duration: January 27, 2025 to June 20, 2025
Hours: 15 – 20
About Us:
Forty years ago, mothers living in public housing in Alexandria discovered that seventeen of their children would not be moving on from kindergarten to first grade. They immediately sprang into action and founded the Child and Family Network Centers (CFNC). Born out of necessity and the intense desire for all children to achieve academic success, regardless of socioeconomic status, CFNC has never strayed from this vision. Our work not only educates the child, but partners with families to remove barriers to success. CFNC’s mission is to provide free high-quality, multilingual early education and wrap around services to under resourced children and their families in their own neighborhoods to prepare them for success in school and in life. Today, CFNC is an Alexandria-based network of eight free, high-quality, multilingual, caring preschools that provide children with the tools they need to succeed in school and in life.
CFNC’s under-resourced, working immigrant parents know what is best for their families, and their three- and four-year old children have the potential within themselves to thrive. Unfortunately, racial equity gaps caused by systemic racism and heightened by COVID-19 make it harder to access the resources they need to meet their basic and holistic health needs, access high quality early childhood education services, achieve long-term goals, and build generational wealth.
Our model empowers families to leverage resources provided and coordinated by CFNC to access these supports, including free multilingual preschool education and family case management (in English and Spanish, Dari, and Amharic). We provide these accessible, wraparound services in their neighborhoods, including full-day support for families who work longer hours. CFNC serves as a partner for children and families as they work to achieve these goals themselves.
