UNM Cancer-PREP Post-Baccalaureate Research & Education Program

The UNM Cancer-PREP Post-Baccalaureate Research & Education Program offers a full-time, immersive experience for recent graduates who are interested in pursuing careers in cancer research, biomedical science, or health-related graduate and professional programs.

Cancer-PREP is designed to support scholars through a strong blend of hands-on research, mentorship, and professional preparation. Participants gain practical laboratory experience while building the confidence and skills needed for the next stage of their academic or professional journey.

Program Experience

Scholars in Cancer-PREP engage in a comprehensive research and development experience that includes:

  • Acquiring hypothesis generation and problem-solving skills
  • Contributing meaningfully to biomedical and community-based cancer research
  • Working closely within a structured mentoring dyad
  • Participating in preparatory workshops focused on graduate and professional school success
  • Taking part in cohort-building activities that foster community and collaboration
